Jorge has gained a lot from his twenty-two years in the energy industry – including his wife who he crossed paths with twenty-one years ago in one of his early roles in South America’s electricity sector.
Colombian born Jorge visited Australia for a short holiday in 1998, and felt an immediate spark, finally making a permanent move over here a few years later.
A couple of decades and two kids later, he’s now bolstering Stanwell Energy’s team, joining us as our Commercial and Industrial Sales Manager in January 2022.
“I’ve spent the past 15 years as an energy broker, so I’m keen to use that experience to support Stanwell Energy’s large customers in implementing new energy projects (like behind the meter solar and embedded networks), reducing emissions, and developing an energy strategy,” Jorge said.
“Coming from a broker background, I know the challenges big businesses deal with, but more importantly I understand the value of listening to customers and coming up with tailored solutions to meet their specific needs.
“Stanwell Energy has a really good name in the industry – so joining its retail team was a no-brainer.”
Jorge said he was also drawn to Stanwell Energy because of its commitment to investing in new renewable energy projects.
“Stanwell Energy has a strong renewable energy project pipeline and is making fast progress in this space,” he said.
“At the end of the day, those renewable projects – which include wind, solar, batteries and hydrogen – will help both our customers and the planet.”
Jorge isn’t just spruiking renewable energy options to our customers; he’s walking the talk at home too.
“We recently installed new 8.5kW solar system at home, to help reduce our own household emissions as we rely a lot on our air conditioning system,” he said.
“We’ve also got a family project underway to start a big veggie garden, and my two kids (a seven-year-old and five-year-old) are looking forward to eating their own home-grown food.”
Outside of work, Jorge reveals he loves to play basketball and visit the beach whenever he can.
“Coming from Colombia, we do a lot of traditional, South American corn-based cooking in our household. Basically, we think all problems can be solved with food!”
Jorge’s positive outlook, sense of humour, and constant smile are already proving to be much-loved assets within the Stanwell Energy team.
