New Energy Initiatives

We are evolving and renewing our portfolio in response to evolving market and consumer expectations, and to support Queensland’s transition to a lower carbon future.

We have confirmed our commitment to the growth of the renewables sector within Central Queensland, by signing the Queensland Government’s Central Queensland Statement of Cooperation.

This includes developing energy solutions for existing customers and facilitating the growth of new industries and energy load within the National Electricity Market.

Through a pipeline of commercial project opportunities, we are helping Queensland transition seamlessly to the energy market of the future. To support this, we are actively seeking strategic partnerships across a range of industries.

Renewable energy partnerships

We are partnering with renewable energy projects based in Queensland and developing power purchase agreements to meet the needs of our customers for lower emissions energy and evolve our generation portfolio to remain relevant in the National Electricity Market.

Wind energy

We are progressing a joint venture in Wambo Wind Farm, and have offtake agreements with Tarong West and Clarke Creek wind farms to service our customer demand for green energy products.

Solar energy

We have offtake agreements with solar farms, such as Blue Grass Solar Farm, to service our customer demand for green energy products.

We are investigating opportunities to develop a large-scale green hydrogen industry in Central Queensland.

Energy Storage

Two 150MW / 300 MWh large-scale standalone batteries in the southern and central energy zones (located near Stanwell and Tarong power stations) have been approved. Procurement and design has commenced. Chemical battery storage solutions create value for our portfolio and help facilitate the integration of variable renewable energy into the energy system.

Coal combustion products

We are exploring opportunities to provide sustainable engineering solutions and to increase use of our by-product across the manufacturing and transport infrastructure industries.

We are supporting the development of a sustainable bioenergy industry which underpins emissions reduction and life extension for our coal-fired power stations.
